Chambray Buttondown: Old Navy / Sweater: Old Navy / Skirt: The Limited, old / Coat: White Plum / Tights: old / Boots: Lucky Brand via Sole Society / Purse: Fossil via TJ Maxx top zip option

My winter wardrobe essentials include a chambray buttondown, fair isle sweaters, and tights or leggings.  Bonus points for wearing them all at one time!

Chambray:

If you don’t have a chambray or denim shirt, it is definitely a worthy purchase.  I wear mine under every sweater I own!  Not only does it add an extra layer of warmth, but it seriously looks great with every color.  Don’t have one of your own?  Borrower a denim buttondown from a dad/brother/BF/ spouse.

Fair Isle Sweater:

My favorite thing about fair isle patterns are that they scream winter, but not “holiday”.  Graphic holiday/Christmas sweaters were a big trend this year, but you spend the money to wear it for such a limited amount of time.  Not the case with fair isle, which I’ll be wearing long into February (that’s my limit b/c by March, I want winter to go away!)

Tights or Leggings:

Love ’em or hate ’em, if you desire to wear skirts or dresses at all during the cold winter months, tights or leggings are absolutely necessary.  I went with a black cable-knit pair for this outfit because I liked the way they paired with the pattern in my sweater, but I also highly recommend fleece-lined and having some in every color:)

Check out my top Fair Isle picks below (all under $30).
