Stripes on Stripes

yellowjewelryTop: Old Navy exact (currently just $5.99!) similar, / Skirt(included belt): JCP, old similar, this one’s cool, and love this one / Heels, old similar, lower heel, yes please! / Earrings: Old Navy similar / Yellow Bangle: Yard Sale similar,  / Watch: Fossil similar, similar in gold, splurge
I’m pretty sure this skirt has been hanging in my closet for about 3 years and had never been worn.  It was one of those super clearance items I just couldn’t pass up, but every time I tried it on, something about it never felt quite right-the high waist made me feel a little awkward, and I didn’t really care for the way it hugged my legs when I walked.  Mind you, these are things that should have crossed my mind when I was trying it on oh so long ago…
I finally decided to give it another go with this basic striped top, and I do believe we have a winner!  The tiny black and white stripes in the top flow perfectly into the wider stripes of the skirt, and keeping it belted at the high waist made it feel more like a dress than a skirt.
Since the overall look is kind of busy, I went light on the jewelry and just opted to play up the yellow in the skirt with a simple bangle and knotted earrings.
I actually wore this to church on Sunday, but this is definitely a good one for the workplace too.  It would also look great with a dressier striped top, like this chiffon blouse, or with a striped turtleneck ($3.99!) and black blazer.  Knee high boots could also be substituted for colder days.
What’s your take?  Would you wear stripes on stripes?

  1. I received this post in my inbox! Yay! I like this Outfit.I don’t think I would have ever had the idea to do stripe on strip and not sure it would look as cute on me as you, but I love the yellow with the black and white stripes. So now I’m going to keep my eye out for this combo.
