Last week, Tyson and I spent some time up north visiting my aunt and uncle.  We had the BEST time!  It was so great to just be able to relax and enjoy each other’s company.  We laughed (and ate) so much!

On Thursday, we spent the afternoon in Chicago.  It was pretty cool the whole time we were there, so I was glad I packed jeans.  I even wore a black blazer all day.  These flats from Sole Society were the perfect choice for walking around the city.  A couple months ago, they were on sale, and I had them in my online cart for a few days.  By the time I decided to buy them, my size was sold out, so when they came back in stock and went on sale again recently, I didn’t hesitate!  I also ordered these, these, and this…Oops.  They are nearly sold out again unless you wear a size 5, but I’ve linked some similar styles below.

After shopping, we enjoyed a very incredible dinner at Quartino.  If you ever find yourself in the area with a yen for Italian food, you should definitely try it out!chicagoquartino

After dinner, us girls went our own way, and the boys theirs to take in different shows.  My aunt and I had tickets to see the Blue Man Group.  It was super cool.  I don’t even know how to explain it, but they are so funny and entertaining.  No pictures were allowed during the show, but we were able to sneak this one in before it started;)bluemangroup

I have to say thanks to my aunt and uncle again for their hospitality and for absolutely spoiling us while we were there.  It was truly one of the best getaways I’ve had in a long time!

A Day on the River

This is what I wore Saturday to spend the day riverside enjoying the Airshow and fireworks at Thunder Over Louisville.  The day could not have been more perfect!  It was actually hot, and I loved every second of it!

Shorts are not usually my first choice; I’m always more comfortable in a dress/skirt or capris, but I knew I wanted to be cool, and I wasn’t sure how windy it would be along the river, so I didn’t think a dress or skirt would be wise.  The hat was a wind precaution as well, but I didn’t end up needing it.

This was my first time to watch the fireworks up close and personal, and it was so amazing!  So beautiful and powerful!  The only downside of the day was we had to park about 1 1/2 miles from where we needed to be, and it had not occurred to me to pack some walking shoes.  My feet certainly paid the price!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as I did:)  Have a lovely Monday!

Ruby Slippers

How often do you create an outfit that starts with the shoes?  Such was the case with this little red and leopard number.  I absolutely love these heels, but I have literally 2 tops that match them, so they don’t get worn very often:(  When I bought them, I must not have read the memo yet that says only buy if you can think of 5 outfits to wear them with, or some such nonsense like that…

Seriously, though, that’s a good rule to shop by, but sometimes a girl just want what she wants.  Know what I’m sayin’?

If you’re in the market for some ruby slippers of your own, I’ve linked up all, shapes, styles and price points below for your browsing pleasure.  Have a great weekend girlies!

Oh, P.S.  If you got any styling tips for me and my red high heels, I’d love to hear them:)

Worth the Effort Sweatshirt

Hello, all!  I do hope you had a wonderful weekend.  I quite enjoyed mine, which consisted of catching up with some old friends, enjoying time with family and the celebration of my daddy’s birthday, and, of course, watching the big Superbowl game.  How about that Katy Perry?!

I was also thrilled to turn the page on the calendar; hello February!  You know what they say the best thing about January is?  When it’s over!  I don’t know who “they” is, but I shall wholeheartedly agree:)  While I am ever so grateful that this January doesn’t even compare to the hellacious conditions we faced last year, I am happily marking one month of winter gone which means one month closer to SPRING!

In the meantime, I’m still trying to stay warm and look like I put a little effort into getting dressed.  This men’s sweatshirt I picked up on clearance makes it pretty easy (I almost grabbed this one too).  I love the idea of sweatshirts, but since I dress for work the majority of the time, I tend to forget it would be nice to have a few more.  Layering my favorite chambray shirt underneath (I told you I wear it under everything) and adding a few simple gold accessories gives it some polish and makes it feel more “me”.

Graphic sweatshirts are super popular right now, and I put together a gallery of some that caught my eye, all under $20.  I included the basics that can be dressed up with a statement necklace, a few with prints that don’t need any extras, and some with cheeky sayings that you can accessorize or let the sweatshirt speak for itself.  What’s your favorite way to wear a sweatshirt?

I do believe this has been the prettiest fall southern Indiana has seen in a few years.  Seeing the trees turn slowly from green to vivid shades of orange, yellow, and red has been amazing.  I have reminded myself daily to pay attention and enjoy the beautiful transition.  Even on my 5-minute drive to work, there’s been one tree in particular that’s brought a smile to my face every time I’ve passed it:)

I have loved watching the colors so much that last week they inspired me to this preppy fall outfit.  Deep reds and oranges are certainly fall staples, and I’ve been waiting for just the right time to mix and match this plaid flannel and striped sweater!  Knee-high leather boots were the perfect finishing touch for a perfectly sunny and cool fall day.

Have you been as amazed by the beauty of this fall as much as I have?  It won’t last much longer, so don’t forget to take a little time to enjoy…Have a great week, and thanks for reading!

Well, hello my old leopard-printed, calf-haired friends.  I’ve missed you!

When I wore this for date night the other night, Tyson just shook his head and said the black, brown, and blue together were all a bit much for him.  I just shook my head back at him and said, “Leopard is a neutral. Duh.”

This Fossil handbag (see the story of how it came to be mine here) will be on my hip for the next 6 months, and adding matching leopard booties and a couple pieces of bling took simple jeans and a sweater up a a couple notches, no?  Check out the gallery below for a bajillion more leopard options.  You can click on the picture for details;)

Keeping It Classy

You know that woman that looks classy no matter where you see her or what time of year it is?  Ne’er a hair out of place, and her clothes are always perfectly coordinated.  Some of these women I know personally, but some I may see in a shopping mall or in an airport, and I just know that she always looks that pulled together.  These women always make me say to myself, ” I want to be like her when I grow up!”

Today, I’m embracing summer in a more “grown-up” look; neutral colors of crisp white and sunny yellow, classic shapes and lines, and simple jewelry and heels.  I’m definitely not ready to give up my cut-offs and flip-flops just yet, but I have been wrestling with the”Am I too old for this?” dilemma, especially when it comes to my work apparel, and thinking about classing it up a little….Have you ever been there?
