When I decided to purchase this skirt from White Plum, I envisioned wearing it with bright pink or my neon yellow heels, but it’s actually more green than yellow, and the pink just didn’t feel quite right.
I finally pulled this old neutral blouse out of the closet in a last ditch effort to make something work, and I was surprisingly pleased! I think it works because it allows the boldness of the skirt to speak for itself. The necklace was just a happy accident that brought it all together perfectly.
May I also add that this skirt style would look great on anyone! I love the definition of the high waistline coupled with the roominess below. Whether you go with a bold print or a solid color, the shape is definitely universally flattering, and I would like to add a few more to my collection, starting with the toucans below! Which one would you pick?

Even though I have closets full of bright and colorful summer wear, sometimes it feels good to simplify and pull out a classic black and white look. Whether it’s in the form of a dress or simple black pants and a white blouse, in bold black and white stripes or a dainty pattern, it’s a combination that always looks polished and will never, ever go out of style.
The great thing about black and white is that you can leave it pure or choose any colorful accessory, a belt, a clutch, or simply a bright nail polish to add your own creative mark.
I opted for red peep-toes and earrings and rosy lips, and I sang Kellie Pickler’s “Red High Heels” in my head all day. How’s that for classic?

Hello lovelies! I hope you had a fantastic weekend. Mine was great because my Tyson came home. He had been in Guatemala since last Saturday, and I missed him terribly! (Read about the mission we are part of here)
I didn’t make the trip this year, but hearing him talk about the children, his time in Antigua, and a day trip to the ocean certainly made me regret it. I must have had the streets of Antigua on my mind when I wore this because it’s perfect for a day of touring the cobblestone streets.Pug approved.
The light-weight material of this dress and a sun-blocking hat are perfect for a hot day of strolling the streets of some exotic location. Unfortunately, I was only in my back yard when I took these photos, and the only touring I did was to work and back (sans hat), but this cute little number will definitely be going with me on my next vacation! White Plum calls this the Belizean Breeze Day Dress. I think a day in Belize would do just fine;)

What’s the first thing you think of when you hear LBD (little black dress)? My first thought is usually special date night or celebration, but I’m putting a more casual spin on my LBD.
For me, one who prefers dresses over anything else, this is the perfect little outfit for a busy day at the office or running weekend errands. I ordered these espadrille flats a few weeks back from Sole Society when they were having the sale I mentioned here, and they are sooo comfortable. Maybe I’m getting old because I can’t get enough of flats right now!
Actually, I wore this exact outfit last Friday for a few hours at work and then up to Indianapolis. Tyson and I had a late lunch, hit up Starbuck’s and then went to the Dave Matthews concert in Noblesville. Before the concert, I switched into my suede booties, and by the end of the night, I was so wishing I had my flats on. Although my feet could have been so sore because I was a dancing machine! That sounds way better than blaming it on age, agreed?

Hello, lovelies! I hope you had a fabulous weekend and it was either spent in a pool or indoors with the air conditioning. I’m not one to complain about the heat too much because you all know how much I despise cold weather, but dang, it was HOT!
This shift dress is a perfect beat-the-heat option and is definitely one of my favorites (I know, I say that about all my dresses), but the fact that it’s white and sleeveless make it an instant summer winner in my book.
Of course, the bright tribal pattern and crochet hem are what initially drew my attention to this dress. I’m always drawn to those unique and eye-catching details that stand out on their own. Other than a couple of bracelets and this fun bag I picked up in Chicago, no accessories needed!
What’s your go-to style for beating the summer heat?

Hello, friends! I’m up north with my beloved visiting family this week. We’re driving into Chicago today for some shopping and yummy eats, and my aunt and I are also going to see the Blue Man Group! Have you ever seen a show? I hear they’re pretty entertaining, so I’m really looking forward to it.
I wanted to share a simple red, white, and (mostly) blue look in honor of upcoming Independence Day. This skirt is an old favorite of mine. I don’t have a big selection of red, but the subtle red and blue embroidery make it perfect for an understated 4th of July look.
We’ll be heading home on Saturday, so I hope to have some time to enjoy the pool, weather pending, and take in the local fireworks show. What will you be doing for the 4th? Whatever your plans, have fun, and be safe out there!
Check out some more of my favorite red, white, and blue picks below. I’m loving the High Waist Nautical Shorts and the Chambray Romper, perfect for the 4th and beyond!

I do believe this might be the prettiest skirt I’ve ever owned. A work of art really. I ordered this Electric Garden Party Skirt from White Plum a couple weeks ago and was beyond pleased when I took it out of the package. The quality of the material and vibrancy of the colors were even so much better in person than the way it appeared online.
The fit is also perfection with the defined waist and knee length flare. This skirt will definitely be a summer staple, and the array of colors makes for a multitude of opportunities to mix it up.
I feature a lot of items purchased from White Plum because I have fallen in love with their colorful and unique selections (they’ve even reposted a couple of my Instagram pics!). If you want to check them out, now is the perfect time! From now thru July 4, spend $40+ and get 50% off your entire order with code AMERICANBEAUTY, plus shipping is always free with any $50 purchase.
