What’s the first thing you think of when you hear LBD (little black dress)?  My first thought is usually special date night or celebration, but I’m putting a more casual spin on my LBD.

For me, one who prefers dresses over anything else, this is the perfect little outfit for a busy day at the office or running weekend errands.  I ordered these espadrille flats a few weeks back from Sole Society when they were having the sale I mentioned here, and they are sooo comfortable.  Maybe I’m getting old because I can’t get enough of flats right now!

Actually, I wore this exact outfit last Friday for a few hours at work and then up to Indianapolis.  Tyson and I had a late lunch, hit up Starbuck’s and then went to the Dave Matthews concert in Noblesville. Before the concert, I switched into my suede booties, and by the end of the night, I was so wishing I had my flats on.  Although my feet could have been so sore because I was a dancing machine!  That sounds way better than blaming it on age, agreed?

Last week, Tyson and I spent some time up north visiting my aunt and uncle.  We had the BEST time!  It was so great to just be able to relax and enjoy each other’s company.  We laughed (and ate) so much!

On Thursday, we spent the afternoon in Chicago.  It was pretty cool the whole time we were there, so I was glad I packed jeans.  I even wore a black blazer all day.  These flats from Sole Society were the perfect choice for walking around the city.  A couple months ago, they were on sale, and I had them in my online cart for a few days.  By the time I decided to buy them, my size was sold out, so when they came back in stock and went on sale again recently, I didn’t hesitate!  I also ordered these, these, and this…Oops.  They are nearly sold out again unless you wear a size 5, but I’ve linked some similar styles below.

After shopping, we enjoyed a very incredible dinner at Quartino.  If you ever find yourself in the area with a yen for Italian food, you should definitely try it out!chicagoquartino

After dinner, us girls went our own way, and the boys theirs to take in different shows.  My aunt and I had tickets to see the Blue Man Group.  It was super cool.  I don’t even know how to explain it, but they are so funny and entertaining.  No pictures were allowed during the show, but we were able to sneak this one in before it started;)bluemangroup

I have to say thanks to my aunt and uncle again for their hospitality and for absolutely spoiling us while we were there.  It was truly one of the best getaways I’ve had in a long time!

Shop The Look

You may have noticed I took a little break from blogging last week; last weekend was spent celebrating my daddy, then I helped with vacation bible school each evening, and my schedule was maxed out.  In the middle of all that was Tyson’s birthday, and he was out of town for a couple days last week, so we finally got to celebrate his birthday Saturday!

We started our outing with a little shopping at Old Navy where I picked up these and this.  Don’t worry, Tyson got a couple things too;)  Then, we headed over to downtown New Albany for a stroll.  Have you guys been down that direction lately?  There are so many neat restaurants/cafes and boutiques to check out!

One of our faves is Wick’s Pizza where we hung out for a little bit to cool off and have an appetizer.  Next, we hit up Puerto Vallarta, our very favorite Mexican restaurant in the whole world, for the main course.  We finished up with dessert at Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen.

This sundress was the perfect choice for our little afternoon getaway.  The loose and flowy material kept me cool and comfortable, and the polka dots and red trim felt feminine and romantic.  Gladiator sandals gave it some edge.  I love all these options too!

What’s your summer style for an afternoon getaway?  I’d love to hear about your favorite local spots!

From Inspiration to Reality

A co-worker friend of mine showed me this picture the other day, and I loved the combination of green and yellow, especially with the polka dots.  I got to thinking that it looked like something I had seen before, and, lo and behold, I had actually pinned it a few months ago to my Color Combos inspiration board on Pinterest!

Now that the weather’s right, I was anxious to create my own version.  Since I don’t have a black and white polka dot shirt, I pulled a little switcheroo and wore the polka dots on the bottom.

Then, I realized I only have 2 yellow tops, and neither was suitable for the layered look I was going for.  However, I do have several green tops to choose from, so I went with the emerald green cardigan.

The necklace (which you’re going to get sick of seeing!) features a lot more color options than my inspiration, but, along with the patterned, colorful flats I wore,  it worked best with the color scheme I had going.

In the end, my version is pretty different from the inspiration photo, but that’s the fun of working with what you’ve got and adding your own spin and personality to an outfit.

Be sure and check out Popofstyle.com by Missy!  Like me, she’s all about getting creative with what you’ve got.  I just discovered her blog because of this post, and I’m loving her colorful style!
